Let there be Groove

20 years passed since Burdon brothers made their first step in the world of electronic music. And now they start a new techno journey in order to praise his majesty The Groove. In march Burdon's aka Octave One launch a new label MS10 & their first big strike is called "The Greater Good".

The concept of MS10 is pretty simple & called "back to the essence of the groove". It's obvious that new generation of electronic music fans would say "no" to "The Greater Good" being in their Ipods. Why? Because they demand tracks to change every 30 seconds & force producers to follow the trendy flow nowadays. In this case Burdon brothers acting like pure musicians who wants to pursue their own visions & thought all around techno music. On other hand, they definitely will be supported by army of dj's starting from Dave Clarke & ending with Robert Hood who'll find in "The Greater Good" one of the key moments for dj set that is called groove.

Techno music is a concept

Jeff Mills is really great on pushing things forward, not being bothered about hype things & just making his own story. More of that, he even said that he don't want to listen to the other producers music. He's a pure creator.

To live a life of Robert Hood

“Typically, I get up, start my day with prayer, have a cup of coffee, read scriptures from the Bible. In Spring and Summer there’s a lot of yard work to do, so I tend to cutting the acres, there’s a tractor mower that I might get on, and I put on my hat, my farming gear. I might work out, too. Do a couple of push-ups and sit-ups, then move into the studio and do some studio work in the afternoon.”

That sounds like quite a contrast to the super-urban music you produce. Do you feel the serene surroundings add a kind of balance to your sound?

“Yeah, it’s a surreal kind of balance. I got so complacent and used to the city landscape and the sounds of the city. You know, looking outside the window and seeing certain activities take place. It sort of got stale. Now this quiet, laidback environment is kind of surreal. When I’m listening to sounds, I’ve slowed down a lot more; I take my time in my musical approach and try to really focus more. Things that go on in the city can be a distraction. It’s almost like being retired here, I feel I have all the time in the world to concentrate on music.”

USA Today & DJ 3000 (Motech, UR) interview

Detroit’s own DJ 3000 & Esteban Adame join their forces in order to create “Heritage” music message, that had already been released as a part of “Galactic Caravan” DJ 3000’s album. In fact, “Heritage” is forth single from mentioned CD. Most of them contained original track & remixes from Ben Sims, Buscemi or Moochi. “Heritage” vinyl is slightly different, because there are two remixes from Nomadico aka DJ Dex & Deviant plus bonus from mighty O.N.O.

Original work from Frank Juncaj aka DJ 3000 & Esteban Adame is based on Motech philosophy of mixing techno with music or roots of different nationalities. Here we have DJ 3000 & Esteban Adame with Mediterranean touch & Latin American touches, respectively. Percussion & main melody are responsible for “oriental” mark in such music. And driving dynamics deliver sound directly on dancefloor. But what differs this music from modern techno is that “Heritage” is full of joy & as I may say fun. It’s not silly or straight to the bone, but it unites people under “dance & music” flag. You can like house, techno or even… salsa & so u will dance to “Heritage” with a smile.
Nomadico or DJ Dex who was responsible for Transmat, Submerge or Los Hermanos’s production made next musical step. His task was to make own interpretation of “Heritage”. Nomadico painted it in dark & intense colors, changed emphasis from percussion to bassline & let music flow. Quality rework.
Deviant’s remix is dedicated to music of Copacabana, when you aren’t in a hurry, you feel yourself comfortable & just enjoy happening. But what I don’t like about his work is vocals, author mixed vocals of adult & teenager, so result is quite strange.
And here comes O.N.O. Japan sensei crafter a massive techno tune. And what so special about it, is that it’s not Berlin, Birmingham or Brussels like techno, but O.N.O. It can be a soundtrack for science-fiction film or for Starcraft 2 game. It unites industrial & melodic elements in techno music. And it sounds very solid. Pure gem.

More of that, DJ 3000 (Motech, UR, USA) kindly gave flash interview for Techno.UA blog.

What is the true meaning of the name "Heritage"? In other words, what lies beneath this name?

The song title has many meanings as do most of my title for songs, some are straight forward and the name and song go hand and hand and need no explanation and some are for the listening to figure out. Heritage is very easy, the song title has to do with ones own Heritage whatever it is and is the Heritage of Detroit music and continuing the tradition of not only Detroit music but also the Heritage of my own culture and Esteban’s culture while still pushing forward on a sound!

"Heritage" is the forth single from "Galactic Caravan" album. Are you satisfied with overall reactions on your album both from professionals & listeners?

To be honest I never have any expectations because I make music first and foremost for myself and if someone likes it and understands what I am trying to do I cant ask for anything else, but it is hard these days when music is all about trends and looks and I am all for that too but has to be don’t in the right way. I don’t follow any trends but I try to push myself as a producer and trying to always achieve a sound or a idea I have in mind while keeping my heritage and Detroit and world roots in tact.

Reactions overall are mixed good and bad and I don’t mind that because you have to remember everyone has there own taste in music so I don’t make music for the mass people but for myself and that’s all, at the end of the day the song, album, projects, cd vinyl or whatever has my name on it and I want that to be a piece of me and look and sound like me.

What next you’re planning to release? Maybe you want to introduce us some new names?

I am just releasing 12"inches from the Galactic Caravan album and remix album because I have loads of them to release over the next year and I have a various artist project call Broken Research 2 that features all my close friends and family on Motech and that album will represent all the artist on Motech... most you know and maybe some that are new to Motech fans... go check it out... www.motechrecords.com
